Poppy Wedding Cake Final Practical Project

Poppy Cake

For our practical project we were tasked with making a three tiered, fondant covered, any theme you choose cake.  It had to have two different flavors cake, two different flavored fillings and have gum paste or pastillage "accessories".  Jen and I paired up again and produced this lovely beast.

We came up with this concept after seeing a fairly similiar but slightly more technical cake that retailed for $950.00 and figured if it ain't broke make it work for you.

I made the poppies by hand with the aid of a spoon and a toothpick. The centers of the flowers are black fondant with blue poppy seeds pressed in to reinforce the obvious and provide texture.  Jen made all of the balls that border each tier and then we painted them individually with pearl dust. 

It weighed like 70#'s
