East Meets West and High Tea

A few exciting things are going on at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute for the Baking and Pastry students in the next few weeks.

For starters, on Friday, May 21, the 4th annual East Meets West dinner is happening.  The dinner starts at 5:00pm and goes until 8:00pm.  The cost of dinner for adults is $20.00 and $10.00 for children.  Anyone in the area should come and sample delicious international morsels prepared by the Culinary students and tasty desserts prepared by the Baking and Pastry students.  To make reservations for the event or for more information, call 541-888-1544.  I am not sure what specifically the culinary side is going to prepare for the event, however I can tell you that desserts will consist of a variety of ice creams, mousses, cakes, tartlets, etc.  All of which will represent Asian and European flavor profiles.  In my class alone, we are making:  Swedish Cream Tartlets, Coconut Lime Truffles, Lychee with tea flavored pastry cream and raspberry sauce, Champagne and Strawberry cake, Lemon grass and Coconut cake, along with many other tasty treats.

Also Thursday, May 27, the Baking and Pastry students of OCCI are hosting a traditional English Afternoon Tea for our friends and family.  We will be putting together a selection of savory finger foods (tea sandwiches, etc) and sweet items (scones, cakes, custards, etc) to sample while sipping a variety of quality teas.
