Baking Project

So as a Baking and Pastry student, I have a gigantic baking project due at the end of the term.  This project is so enormous that we have all term to work on it.  Basically, we have all been given the task of creating a bakery.  At first it is all so exciting and all of these ideas and plans run through your head, but when it comes time to actually do work, where do you start?  People don't realize what goes into planning a bakery.  It all starts with the menu.  To represent my peeps in Boise Idaho, my bakery is called "Treasure Valley Treats".  A general bakery with tastes of potato and huckleberry (very prominent foods in Idaho), I am trying to work in a little bit of everything.  Also, not as easy as it sounds.  With all of the possibilites of bread, cake and pastry types, it is somewhat grueling to come up with a well rounded menu.

Aside from creating a menu, we are also tasked with coming up with a floorplan, inventory lists, job descriptions, fire/safety codes, resume/cover letter, advertising, logos and formulas/cost sheets for each of our menu items.  Fortunately, I have gotten a pretty good start so I should get everything done on time, it was just kind of a crazy wake up call as to how much work it all is.  On a lighter note, realizing everything that goes into a project such as "creating a bakery" will make us better employees and better bakers.  And since we are doing all of this work now, if we need to use this information during our careers, we already have the hard part done.

Here are some pictures of baked goods that I have put on my menu:
